  • On lessons 3-4 we work in the Social Media Machine tool.
  • Students work in groups of 2-3.
  • Each group must have access to a phone, tablet or computer and a suitable internet connection.
  • There are assignments during and after the Social Media Machine simulation. Distribute the assignment sheets to the students either on paper or use the Google Classroom / M365 Teams application, for example.
  • Downloadable worksheets for this lesson:

See the instructions for using the Social Media Machine on the video below. It also gives you a better idea on how to scaffold the lesson.

Teacher, watch this video before the lessons.

After students have scrolled the simulation for 5-10 minutes, click the next step called "2. Data". The simulation will pause.

To complete the lesson, follow this formula:

  1. 1. Click the next step (i.e. first step is "2. Data"). The simulation pauses.
  2. 2. Look at one or two of the students' profiles on the big screen.
  3. 3. Unpause the simulation and let students look at the data on their own screen.
  4. 4. Instruct the students to complete the related exercise in their worksheet.

Steps are visible on the left side of the teacher's view. In between each step, students complete their exercises.

Teacher can pause and unpause the simulation at any time by clicking the Play/pause button.

In students' view, the data can be accessed via the icons at the bottom of the screen. The simulation has to be unpaused for them to access the data.
