What Generation AI project is about?
Generation AI helps people understand how artificial intelligence (AI) based systems affect everyday life.
AI systems already shape what we see online, what gets recommended to us, how we are profiled, and how decisions are made about us. Yet for many people, these systems feel invisible or confusing. Generation AI wants to change that.
We wish to help people understand how AI works, what AI systems do with data, and why it matters. We focus on novice learners, but especially on children and young people, because they are growing up in a world where AI techniques appear everywhere, but rarely explained.
We create free and open learning tools, classroom activities, and teaching approaches that make AI understandable without requiring programming skills. Our work brings together experts in technology, education, and law to make sure AI learning is practical, responsible, and fair.
Generation AI is about giving people the knowledge and confidence to ask questions, spot problems, and make informed choices in a data-driven world.
Generation AI is funded by the Strategic Research Council (SRC) established within the Research Council of Finland (2022–2028).

How we think about AI education
We believe that learning about AI should feel intuitive, hands-on, and relevant.
AI is not magic. AI systems do not “understand” people, and they often get things wrong. They are built by humans, trained with data, and shaped by design choices. That means AI systems can be explored, questioned, and challenged.
Generation AI treats AI education as a way to help people understand the world they live in today and the one they are growing into.
